About the Sanctuary

Open Wings Parrot Sanctuary is a closed, non profit sanctuary. (*closed’ means that we are at capacity for intakes, & only adopt out on a case by case, very individual basis, if it’s what is best for the bird to live as an only bird, or when the bird ‘chooses’ someone other than one of us.
We love having visitors, & showing people the home we work so hard to keep beautiful, clean & full of enriching activities for the birds to enjoy. Hemp ropes hang from the ceiling, lots of toys in their cages, & almost all day they’re free to fly out of their cages.
Most of the flock are here for the remainder of their lives. We work hard to keep a peaceful & cohesive environment. The flock has a great symbiosis, & we know each & every bird’s unique personality; strengths & weaknesses; needs, health issues, etc & as much of their history as possible.
As it stands now, we pay for everything out of pocket, & the very generous donations of a few wonderful individuals who have helped support us.
Our mission is to provide a loving forever home, any necessary rehabilitation & ongoing vet care for our birds.
They all get a lot of love, consistent 1:1 time & attention. All of the flock have come from a variety of different backgrounds. Many have been loved & cared for immensely, but came here due to unforeseen circumstances. Some outlived their owners, &/or people’s situations changed, & they were no longer able to keep their birds.
We also have many who were neglected &/or abused, & need a lot of patience, time/attention, & love.. to learn to trust humans again.
